Slippery When Wet Blog Hop!

slippery-when-wet-_128

This hop is all about celebrating MM romance, which just happens to coincide with my attending the first ever OZ mm Meet her in Sydney. So to celebrate both MM romance and the meet, I’m giving away a few prizes as well as giving you all a sneak peek at a short story i’m working on titled A Man’s Pride!

EXCERPT

He got no more than two steps inside before his mother met him, eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she took in his appearance. “Oh god. It’s worse than you said.”

He held his arms out, hugging her tight when she came to him. “It looks a lot worse. Besides, you’re so used to healing quick, I think you forget what its like for the rest of us simple folk.”

“Oh hush,” his mother slapped him lightly on the chest. “Your father is fully human, and being mated to me means that he heals just like you, so I’m quite well aware.”

“I’m fine, mum,” he grumbled, an indulgent smile quirking the edges of his lips.

“Just let her go, son,” his father chuckled, coming to greet him. “Trust me, it ends quicker if you just let her at it.”

His mother glared at her mate. “Watch it you.” She then turned back to Cody. “And you never told me how this happened.”

Cody went to answer, to come up with some flimsy excuse. The last thing he wanted was for his parents to know that not only had he been dating his boss, but Cody had caught the man skimming money from the company they worked for. He had been so sure it was some mistake. Sure Michael could be rough, and even a little mean sometimes, but Cody hadn’t thought the man would steal from his own place of business. And he certainly hadn’t seen the beating coming, to warn him to keep his mouth closed.

“It was silly really, I was ju-”

“Is this where you come up with some excuse that we have to pretend to believe because you think none of us will call you out on your lie?” Cody froze at the sound of the deep baritone voice.

No, it can’t be him, he reassured himself, but one look in his mothers direction confirmed it all. Nicolas.

His body tense, and something deep and primal inside of him stirred. If he didn’t know any better, he would have sworn he possessed a Lion, and it was purring at the alluring scent that suddenly filled the room. But he did know better. Cody was a half-breed, a half-breed that couldn’t shift.

Clearing his throat, he refused to look at the man who had entered the room, instead focusing everything he was feeling at his mother. The hurt, the betrayal. “Speaking of lying.”

“Cody, please. There is so much you don’t know,” his mother pleaded.

He backed away from her, unable to stand her touch at that point.

“Don’t blame your mother. I ordered her to lie.” Those words had him spinning around to confront the man he had hoped to avoid.

“Why? Why would you do that? Do you get your kicks from ripping families apart?” he spat out in fury.

Damn, the man was handsome. The sight of all that silky blonde hair, pinned back to keep it out of the way of forest green eyes, made him hard. His cock instantly stood to attention as his gaze traveled over the deliciously muscled body, with wide shoulders and firm in all the right places. Oh, how he had dreamed of this man. Ever since he was old enough to know it was boys who made him tingle in all the right places, Nicolas had starred in all his fantasies. Up until, and even after, the man had ripped out his heart and torn it apart.

“Cody, that’s enough. He is your Alpha,” his father chastised.

He hands fisted at his sides, Cody met Nicolas’ gaze dead on. “No, he isn’t. And I want to know.”

“You want the truth?” Nicolas raised an eyebrow, crossing his thick arms across his chest. “Fine, but you first.”

Cody ground his teeth. Fucking bastard. “Caught my boss stealing from the company and confronted him. Needless to say, he didn’t take too kindly to being caught out, okay?”

“Oh, sweetheart. I ha-” His mother started to speak but was cut off.

“No, not okay, because its not the whole truth, is it?” Nicholas gave him a knowing look.

All right. Now he was getting really pissed. “What would you know?”

“More than you might think,” the Alpha replied cryptically.

“Good for you,” he gritted out, beyond furious now. He’d had enough. “I’m out of here.”

Cody spun on his heel, and pushed out the back door, ignoring the protests behind him. He ran as fast as his legs would carry him, desperate to get away from them all. A deep yearning inside of him felt like it was screaming out the further he got from the house and he hated that he couldn’t shake the feeling.
